...in awe...

zac and i had so much fun watching these little caterpillars change into butterflies! i was amazed and still am at how quickly they transform into a completely different life form...pretty cool. anyway...here's our little experiment and their amazing journey summed up in just a few pictures...

this isn't the best picture...but it's the only one i took the night we got them. they came in the mail just like this...all the yellow stuff at the bottom is their food.

about 10 days later, they made their way up to the top of the container and somehow wove themselves into these cocoons. you can see the last one of the bunch is still not quite there.

once they were all in their cocoons, we moved them into this fun container...and anxiously waited. sometimes i wonder if i got this little kit for zac, or if i got it for myself. i seriously thought it was the coolest thing ever! anyway...they stayed in their cocoons for another 10 days or so...

we woke up sunday morning to find our first butterfly! by that afternoon all of them had come out of their cocoons.

a couple of days later, we decided to let them go...and i was so bummed because i didn't get one picture of them flying out of the cage...they were way too fast for my picture-taking skills.

but i did get a few shots once they landed on some blossoms... :)

i couldn't help but draw some sort of parallel between these little creatures and each one of us. we all have so much potential...and everything we need to make us into the amazing beings we truly are is already inside of us...it's all right there, just so many times we don't realize it. i mean really, if we all could recognize the strength and potential that already lies within us, and we actually did something with it...this world would be a much better place!

"just like the butterfly,
i too will awaken in my own time."

what a great experiment, and also parallel -- by the way, that pic at the bottom of the butterfly on the flower is AMAZING --- really love it, and wonder if it is because you have such an awesome camera, or you are just relaly a great photographer.....i am trying to convince myself to get a better camera!

How fun! Your pictures are beautiful by the way. I liked your comparison at the end too. That's why I've always been almost obsessed with butterflies...there are a lot of parallels you can draw from them, and they are beautiful. What a fun experience for Zac! Are you going to do it again you think?
